Did I need any new beauty products? No. Am I a sucker for new formulas, pretty packaging and limited editions. Without a doubt. So while I didn’t plan any new makeup purchases, I could’t resist a nice discount on Chanel. I ordered the Chanel Eau de Teint from the 2019 Les Beiges collection and the classic red lipstick Rouge Allure in 99 Pirate.

I don’t own a lot of makeup. Mostly skincare products. I would rather have nice skin and no foundation than having to cover it up for a smooth complexion. Mind you, I know that not everyone is blessed with such easy skin as mine so I have nothing against wearing full coverage makeup. It’s just not for me. My idea of makeup is a tinted moisturizer and some mascara. So if I wear anything on my face it needs to be lightweight. For years I’ve been wearing Origins VitaZing SPF15 Energy-Boosting Moisturizer which adds just a hint of colour. But the formula of the Eau de Teint and the reviews got me interested. We will see how I like it.

If I could only wear one makeup product next to my base for the rest of my life, it would be lipstick. A blueish red to be exact, which works excellent with olive skin, so the internet tells me. MAC’s Ruby Woo has been my go to option for the last 10 years but the extremely dry formula doesn’t seem to work for me anymore. I still love the matte look but my lips are always dry now, no matter which lip balm I try or how much water I drink. So I hope this will be a nice replacement.

Do you ever switch from long time favourites to new products?

“Red lipstick is a fashion accessory. So we won’t wear any other makeup with it. Then our hair has to be messy, our skin has to be perfect, and we’ll just wear jeans and heels because the lipstick makes the statement.” – Paris-based makeup artist Violette on French beauty, as told to Vogue.com

Nothing brightens up my face as a swipe of colorful lipstick. Additionally, it’s also the perfect way to glam up any outfit. My favourite combination: all black with a bold red lip. Although MAC’s Ruby Woo is my all time favourite shade of red, at the moment I’m slowly moving towards more subdued colours. NARS Dolce Vita is a lovely MLBB (my lips but better) sheer lipstick that I would love to add to my current collection. If you have any other suggestions that might suit my olive skin tone, let me know!

Can we talk about skin care for a brief moment? I believe 100% that skin care is more important than makeup, and its infinitely easier to find more information on natural skin care than which chemicals magically react right with our bodies to keep our skin healthy. Because the better your skin looks, the less makeup you need. And also, I’m lazy as hell and I really like to look somewhat alive when I go outside with a bare face. So even though my latest purchase, Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate, may be considered a luxury by some people, I do not feel guilty when I’m spending a pretty penny on skin care products. I’m not afraid to admit that my bathroom basically resembles a Kiehl’s store with a few other classics here and there.

Admittedly, at first I was mostly attracted by the clean and apothecary-like packaging (what can I say, I’m a sucker for pretty packaging), but to my surprise it did major wonders on my skin as well. After my visit at the dermatologist laser for pigmentation was the best solution. Then I’ve been a diehard fan of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate for years now, so I obviously had to try this as well. It does not disappoint. It’s a light-weight oil that makes your face feel insanely soft and gives it a radiant glow. “It might also help you ease the tension on your skin after laser removal,” says a laser removal tattoo dermatologist. And if you do decide to put on some makeup, it goes on much smoother and nicer. But don’t take my word for it, because I’m too scared to plaster my face all over the internet, and try it yourself. Kiehl’s is always very generous with giving out samples!
