Happy New Year everyone! This is going to sound very cliché, but I can’t believe the year 2014 has come to an end. It went by so fast, especially December. Now I know everyone is writing how incredible their year has been, but to be completely honest, mine was okay. Nothing more, nothing less. I’ve experienced some very fun things, made some awesome trips to London, Paris etc. but I also struggled with my health. Nothing too serious, but unfortunately it left me extremely tired for the first six months. On a positive note, I finally started a blog! I’ve been wanting to start one for several years, but I always had some lame excuse haha. But at the end of August I was finally online and I can’t believe there are actually people reading my posts. So thank you all very much. I really appreciate it!

I thought it would be fun to do a quick recap of my favourite things in 2014:

Top 5 wardrobe favourites
* Balenciaga cutout boots
* Isabel Marant for H&M coat
* Acne Galactic sweater
* Adidas Stan Smith sneakers
* Black skinny jeans

Top 5 favourite beauty / skin products
* Garnier Micellar water
* Embryolisse lait crème concentré
* Weleda Skin Food
* Chanel Rouge Coco Rivoli lipstick
* Chanel Le Volume mascara

Top 5 favourite songs
* Kendrick Lamar – B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe
* The Gaslight Anthem – Stay Vicious
* Nicki Minaj ft. Meek Mill – Buy a Heart

Top 5 things I learned
* Never go all out when you’re back in the gym after 6 months (I had to roll myself out of bed this morning…)
* The sun is your friend. A vitamin D deficiency sucks! I never want to be that tired and sore ever again.
* It’s okay to make a mistake at work. It won’t kill you.
* This year I bought even less stuff than I did in 2013 and I don’t feel like I missed out on anything.
* Blogging is hard work but also a lot of fun and I appreciate every singel reader <3

hema-longer-lasting-lipstick

Previously mentioned in my Holiday gift guide, but this longer lasting lipstick in 06 by HEMA definitely deserves some extra attention. It took me a while to get my hands on this fabulous color, because it sells out every single time they re-stock. Why is it so fabulous? Because it’s almost a perfect dupe for MAC’s legendary Ruby Woo for only a fraction of the price. So it’s cheap, it’s matte and it’s extremely long-lasting. It does dry out your lips a little, but no more than Ruby Woo does. Just make sure you moisturize your lips before applying it.

Sometimes I wonder why it took me so long to start wearing lipstick. I guess it felt too fashionable and/or too grown up. You know, models, business women and your grandma. It wasn’t until I read an interview with the gorgeous Jen Brill that I finally gave it a try. Ruby Woo is her favorite lipstick and our skin color is very similar, so I didn’t have to search for a color that worked for me. Although both lipsticks are a lovely bright red for an evening out, it also looks great with a simple pair of jeans and a T-shirt. Actually, I prefer the latter with perfect skin and tousled hair so the lipstick really stands out. Très chic!

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, so my skin needs to look it’s absolute best. I mean, spending 10 minutes concealing any imperfections or spending an extra 10 minutes in bed? Yeah, my thoughts exactly. So I don’t mind investing in skincare brands like Grown Alchemist. Especially when the products are free from chemicals and animal testing, and the packaging is made from recyclable glass en PET plastic. Although I should probably mention that I’m a sucker for pretty apothecary-style bottles and minimal graphic design too. Anyway, I bought the Grown Alchemist Facial Kit with a couple of travel size products so I can try the brand without spending a lot of money on just one product. It makes a great gift as well since it comes in a cute hand made box with gold foil. I’m excited to see if it does anything for my skin. My Kiehl’s products used to work really well, but lately some of them make me break out a little. Fingers crossed!

Any favorite skincare brands you would like to share?

PS. If you would like to try the Grown Alchemist products for yourself and you live in Europe, make sure you order from Space NK. Their shipping rate is really acceptable.

escentric-molecules-daarboven

We’ve probably all been there, standing in a perfumery or a department store, walls covered with pretty bottles, not knowing where to start. I know I always felt a little lost (and still do). So I usually chose the easy way out and opted for the it-scent of the moment; Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, DKNY Delicious, you name it. I liked the smell of course, I’m not that easy, c’mon! But they never stuck. Most scents give me a headache after a few hours and I also didn’t like the fact that I knew at least three other girls who wore the same fragrance as me (I’m such a diva. I wish you could see my Mariah hand movements. Spot on!).

Now I’m not someone who wears a different scent every day or who has a perfume for different occasions. I prefer to stick to one option until the bottle is empty. I tried to find my signature scent. You know, that scent by which you are able to recognize someone when they walk into a room. It took me a while, but I have finally found mine: Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules. I’ve been wearing it for several years and still love it. It’s the most subtle and unusual scent that slowly develops on your skin. You can hardly smell it yourself, but the people around you can. It’s amazing, it disappears and reappears throughout the day and it’s lasting power is incredible. I’ve received so many compliments, even from people I hardly know. I bought my third bottle last week.

Are you a one-scent woman or do you like to keep your options open? What are your favorite scent(s)?
